Mt. Washington Valley Rec Path

In the future, we hope the MWV Rec Trail will be part of a continuous, family-friendly, rec trail stretching from Bartlett, New Hampshire to Portland, Maine. In addition to our local Rec Path, three segments of this trail system in Maine are already completed thanks to the work done by the Maine Mountain Division Alliance.

The Rec Path is heavily used by a broad range of community members and is a greatly appreciated community asset. It is suitable for walking, biking, running and other non-motorized uses.

The first phase of the Mount Washington Valley Rec Path was completed in the summer of 2023. This is a 2.9-mile multi-use, paved, path for non-motorized recreation and transportation that runs south from Cranmore Mountain Resort to Hemlock Lane. The trail can be accessed at Hemlock Lane, Thompson Rd. and at Cranmore Mountain Resort.

We are currently planning and designing Rec Path Phase 2 which will run for 2.3 miles from Cranmore Mountain Resort north through Whitaker Woods to Intervale Rd.

Phase 2 is on schedule and moving forward. Town of Conway staff and our project engineers (HEB) are working to secure various permits (including environmental and wetlands permits), and complete all right of way agreements in order to finalize a 90% project design. This will be presented to the Board of Selectmen in the fall of 2025. The selectmen will then hold a public hearing and vote on the design. Once approved, the project will be put out to bid. Initial work is planned for the winter of 2025, with construction beginning in the spring of 2026. The project is expected to be completed by November 2026.

Please:
  • Be courteous and respectful of other users.

  • Slow down when passing or when in crowded areas.

  • Cyclists and inline skaters yield to walkers and runners.

  • Slower or more vulnerable users have the right of way.

  • Keep right and pass on the left.

  • When passing, ring a bell or give a verbal warning ("on your left!").

  • When stopped, move off the path to let others pass.

  • Keep pets leashed and under control.

  • Clean up after pets and dispose of waste properly.

  • Be aware of your surroundings, including other users, wildlife and potential hazards.

  • Don't assume others know you are there, especially if they are wearing headphones or are distracted.

  • Be predictable in your movements and avoid sudden stops or changes in direction.

  • Keep headphones on low or use only one earbud.
